New Kids on the Block make their live singing debut.
May 13, 1986
Originally Nynuk, they perform at the Sportsmen’s Tennis Club. The band, which includes Dorchester teenagers Jonathan and Jordan Knight and Donnie and Mark Wahlberg and Joey McIntyre of Jamaica Plain, made its first public performance lip-synching a concert at the Joseph Lee School six weeks earlier. They release their first album in 1986,* and become extremely popular, especially with teen-age girls. After changing its name briefly to NKOTB, the group disbands in May 1994, then regroups for occasional concerts beginning in 2008.*
